How to choose your perfume for women?
Seductive, independent, sparkling or daring, you can use the
perfume and its scents of character to reflect and establish your personality
with the delicate noses of your loved ones. But you still have to find the
fragrance that suits you, which is not always easy given the phenomenal
quantities of products offered in perfumery.
That's why we've put together particular essential
information to keep in mind when purchasing your next bottle.

First of all, be aware that fragrances exist in different
forms, which can very strongly influence their price:
•Cologne water : it is the least concentrated in perfume,
since it contains around 3 to 6% of aromatic essences. Volatile, it lasts about
two hours on the skin. Contrary to what one might think, it is not only
intended for these gentlemen!
•Eau de toilette : a little more concentrated, it
incorporates between 7 and 12% of aromatic essences, which allow it to last at
least three to four hours. As we mention in our comparison of the best perfumes
for men , it is the sector today favored by men's perfumes, but many feminine
products are also achieving their greatest success in this version.
•Eau de parfum : it has a attention of 12 to 20%, for a
period of 6 to 8 hours. This version is generally the most popular with the
female audience, who are more inclined to wear a perfume on a daily basis. It
is moreover without surprise of this type of fragrances that constitutes the
main part of our comparison.
•The perfume : this variation is the most expensive, given
that it offers a concentration ranging between 20 and 40%. It is more rarely
offered on the market, although the generic term “perfume” has been derived
from it. Very intoxicating and expensive, the perfume is to be reserved for
special occasions.
Then, the most important thing is obviously to determine
which are the fragrances that appeal to you the most! There are three notes in
each perfume, which correspond more or less to its stages of development and
make it rich:
•Top notes : this is the volatile part of a perfume, the one
that you immediately smell during application and which generally does not last
more than 15 minutes to 2 hours. It is the lighter scents that are often
concerned, such as citrus fruits, or even delicate floral scents such as
lavender.
•Heart notes : this is in a way the characteristic odor of a
perfume, the one that takes full place once the top note has evaporated, and
which develops over several hours. It is most often more intense floral scents,
like jasmine, that of sweet fruits like pear, “green” smells like grass, and
more heady spices like cinnamon.
•Base notes : as the heart note develops, the base note
emerges, which will last the whole day, or even several days reliant on the
quality of the perfume. It is this which determines the total duration. Among
the frequent, deeper base notes, we can cite vanilla, sandalwood, leather,
tobacco, musk ...
Finally, as with any cosmetic product, it is always
interesting to be informed about its composition, and more particularly about
the controversial and potentially harmful ingredients that it could contain:
•BHT : this molecule used in cosmetics for its antioxidant
properties is suspected of being an endocrine disruptor, likely to destabilize
the reproductive system of men and women. It can also cause allergic reactions.
Unfortunately, it is still widely used in a wide variety of cosmetic
products.
•Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate : of synthetic origin, it is
recognized for its anti-UV properties. However, it does not only enter into the
composition of sun protection: it is also found in many day creams, foundations
or even lip balm. Unfortunately, it is also suspected of disrupting the
endocrine system.
•Benzyl salicylate : this is an allergen that currently
raises many questions. It is planned to assess its potential harmfulness and
carcinogenicity this year. Note that this is a molecule present in many
essential oils, which is therefore found in many natural and / or organic
products. If in doubt, you might as well try to avoid it as much as possible.
•Perfume : this generic term hides many substances, whether
natural (such as essential oils , for example) or synthetic. Both can cause an
allergic reaction. The synthetic musks are quite controversial, mainly for
their poor biodegradability.
•Phthalates : used as fixatives in perfumes, their presence
is very difficult to detect since they often slip under the name “perfume”. As
we specify in our review of the best deodorants for women , they are recognized
as dangerous for health, and some of their variants are already prohibited.
